We have been working for highways all week and I have noticed there have been a lot of trees marked up with the usual letter attached from the council, the letters are signed by the area manager and in brackets next to the signature is a certain companies name? Is this usual practice on roadside trees that the company in question has authority to mark them up?

Hi stuart , im not aware that anyone other than the LA its self can do this .

Interesting, I shall be in contact with the council agent for the area and ask if he knows about it, may even send him my quote as well

Hi Stuart. I think you'll find that the said company is contracted to DCC. They have been marking trees all over mid Devon and East devon as well. Its part of the new highways consultancy and tree work contract that started the beginning of this year. I personally think it appears as if the surveyors are quite 'heavy handed' with the old tree paint!

Yeah, that is my main concern, loads of trees due for removal that could be managed in a better way than just a big X painted on them!

there was recently (within the last 5 years) a case in totnes where a young woman was killed by a roadside tree which sparked a massive re think on how roadside trees are managed etc
