Southern beech?

Found this today while out in Dorchester (I'm camping nearby in wareham forest). I didn't bring my Owen Wilson book with so can't check but. I think it looks a bit like some kind of southern beech. See pics and let me know your thoughts.

Have you walked around Thorncombe Woods near Dorchester? We have loads of Beeche trees in there as well as some massive Sweet Chestnuts. You can tell we did a massive amount of Laurel and Rhody bashing last winter.

Here is a link for Thorncombe Woods. There are normally rangers around the woods who can give you a breif talk about management of the woods and species in there. There is a big interp board at the car park.

The other site to check out is Hilfield Hill Hilfield hill - dorsetforyou.com .It has some of the best views of West Dorset.
