Trees & Woodlands Officer

Fixed Term Post until September 2009.

37 hours per week

Band D: £17,781 - £21,412 (with possible progression to £25,320) Pay award pending

Based at Grassington

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to deliver our services in relation to protected trees and hedgerows – dealing with applications; and advising members of the public. You will also be responsible for looking after trees on land owned by the Authority, and supporting achievement of our targets for new native woodland planting and better woodland management in the National Park.

An arboriculture qualification will be essential, as will a good working knowledge of geographical information systems, which are vital to much of our work. Ideally, applicants should also be able to demonstrate:

· some experience of processing Local Authority protected tree applications (e.g. Tree Preservation Orders, trees in Conservation Areas).

· good knowledge of the relevant part of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 relating to protected trees.

· ability to deal sensitively with the public.

The successful applicant will be based at Grassington.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in a national park, dealing with protected trees in the setting of a nationally-designated landscape.

Application forms and further information are available on the Yorkshire Dales National Park website at http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk. They may also be obtained by telephoning 0870 1 666333 or by e-mailing [email protected]

Closing date: Noon, Friday 3 October 2008

Nice looking job there Iain.

Having spent a grand couple of weeks up near there recently, my wife would love me to uproot from the big smoke and get a post like this.

If I wasn't so attached to the Heath, I'd be very interested.

Hopefully the suits will get wind of my itchy feet and chuck me a nice raise to keep me :001_smile:

Yorkshire definately needs a good few more monoliths imo

Thats the tricky bit if you haven't come from a background in planning or been an assistant tree officer.

Balls! I'd optimistically taken that to be filling in the forms to ask for relevant permissions......
