Alot of farms around me use old ones for straining/hanging posts. Must play havoc for the poor chainsaws going through them.

 

Yep keep an old bar and chain for cutting them to build pheasant pens, especially when cutting a point on the end like a pencil to push in the ground with a JCB bucket - 4 to 8 cuts then resharpen.

Cheers lads, I know they are not that far in the ground. Just notice some really big one's about. They make great kindling.

could be a bit smelly with all the timber treatment, tar etc

Few months ago they replaced quite a few in the village. We watched as the old boy was sent to get an old ripsaw from the truck and then spent 20 mins sweating to cut ten inches off the pole. I did the decent thing and offered to send the lad cutting logs over for 2 mins. Boss said nah i rather watch him sweat. But they donated all the old poles and delivered them a mile down the road.:001_smile:
