Not Happy.

Today we had to take the remainder of a beech tree down. To cut a long story short it was safer to fell the remaining stem across a road.

Phoned highways who said they would inform the emergency sevices but we had to close the road ourselves. Got an invoice from highways for £140 by email by the time I got home.

We closed the road I got the gob and backcut in. Tree is only held by winch. Paramedic turns up with blue flashers on?????????/

What was the £140 for:mad1:

Do you pay for this service?????????

if works are emergency then the bobbies will close the road FOc

other than that its upto the local highways sect of the council, their decison will be based on type of road & length of closure , however as I understand it they are not to burden business unduly, wether that be finance or adminisratively, & as a public body should be accountable for the means used to arrive at any charge made.

Sounds like they have got there wires crossed and thought there was an accident etc sending the paramedics out and billing you for it.

Hopefully you can rectify the situation and cancel the bill.

Hope you can get it sorted.

NO MISUNDERSTANDING the paramedic was not made aware that the road was to be closed and was on his way to another job. We had to divert him.

your decision to close the road

was it made on saftey of highway users or was it simply to get the job done easier / quicker safer for you guys

if it was safety re the higheay then imo it was emergency

if the later then either you or the customer benefited

so you take the hit or discuss with your customer explain the cost saving to them in speeding up the task by the closure & go dutch !

Was it not easier to just have a couple of lads with stop/go's and keep quiet . Then winch the butt back away from the road.

I could possibly have misunderstood the post but I know of plenty of adhoc road closures without permission, but they where part of known traffic control measures pre booked with highways.

Mac,

How long did you actually need the road closed for?

ie. while you made the final cut and then cleared the tree sufficiently to get at least one lane of traffic open?

Was it a 30, 40, or 60 mph speed limit?

I agree with logologist's plan if it wasn't too busy.

We do plenty like that, even ring highways up first and ask their advice, never a problem so far.

Lets Just say I did not go through highways and the paramedic rocks up en route to an emergency (or an ambulance with someone in the back)........**** could have hit the fan.

Very busy road 60mph. took 15mins to set up and clear road signs. I told them it might take twenty minutes.
