Can you spot a fake?

Been on Alibaba see what you mean you can buy anything at all at really low price but all rip offs and imports , ok the saws a fake but itl do the job of a real one ? Or would it not ?

Necessary to stress they aren't genuine imports rather counterfeit ones. The only use of a clone I would have thought would be to have some cheap cosmetic spares as I would use any of the "main" parts.

A fake 070 in action, anyone who has ever run a real one will know...

A lot of genuine importers who realise they are buying counterfeits paint them so they won't get in trouble with Stihl.

Go to 10:00 for this one;

From what I have read the carbs are one of the biggest problems; don't supply enough fuel and the H and L screws have little effect.

Check out some of the other points I raised. Does it say "Made in Germany" or "Made in Brazil" on the recoil starter? A picture of your saw to compare would be nice.:001_smile:

never really looked at ours that closely, we have the av version so it is slightly different

I bet that saw has seen some work :001_smile:

Your saw is a lot older version than the one in question and by the looks has had quite a few of the bolts replaced (still a very nice saw though). Yours would be before 1981. The clone is a copy of a post 1996 saw (with plastic nameplates etc). So you can't compare the nameplates.

Did you cut the clutch cover and outer felling dog away for better chip clearance? or did it break? You should still be able to buy replacements from Stihl.

Megatron - your last comment concerns me, no reflection to any supplier on here. With your knowledge you can tell but for most of us we can't.

Your comment about spare quality and mfg process will not be to the same spec to put it mildly. I brought a small S&W knife on 'offer' from a good supplier a few years ago simular the one I brought my son from a different supplier. Firstly the blade quality was poor so we suspected it was a fake, then noticed small component differences to confirm it.

The whole system for buying 'real' products will be difficut in a few years time.

Well impressed with your knowledge - Megatron:thumbup1:
