Turns out a few lumps of mud within the wood... Oh well, only had a 2.5 ton tracked chipper and forestry mulcher obliterate the "monument" last week!

 

The grid looks fine so I presume the obliteration you refer to is regarding the "lumps of mud"?

 

Whilst we might all shake our heads at the infighting and power struggles within Govt. is there perhaps the possibility that you have actually destroyed some archaeology? Kinda squashed history that can never be regained?

Nope, they've been out today to inspect. No damage; rather did them a favour de-veging it!
