value of walnut

i have a piece of walnut, seems sound not soft or rotten in the middle,with about an 80% dark stain in the grain. the piece is about 10 feet long, and 19cm diameter at the butt, and 15cm at the other. just wondered if anyone had any ideas on what its worth?? iv had guys round telling me its worth 100 quid but im sure its worth more!:confused1:

Its only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it, being as I don't do woodwork or turning,........... plus if you haven't the skills to turn it into something else, its firewood............

 

or

 

I'd now be 100-00 quid richer....:thumbup1:....simples.

There is only a little over 2.5 cubic foot of timber in that log. If someone is offering you £100, snap it up because it's a lot more than most people would pay!

 

It's the low diameter that limits the value as it's too small to mill and limited for turning too.

I've had a lot of dealings with walnut in the last year. If you are lucky you may get £50 for that.

 

The myth about walnut being worth fortunes is just that - a myth pure and simple. The right walnut is worth good money but these trees are very rare. They need to be shake free, excellent colour, small sap ring and knot free.
