Two fingers to insurance and health and safety

The tar barrel rolling down here has similar problems with insurance. Somehow they seem to think that letting drunk farmers run through crowds of people with flaming barrels is a bad idea. One day they will try to ban it but no doubt they'll do it anyway. Good on crazy British traditions.

For anyone not knowing about the tar barrels visit here and look at a few of the videos, one of the most entertaining, hair-raising, warm! How do they get away with it, singeing evenings, you will ever have

my wife is on the local parish council, and is trying to raise money for some play equipment on the playing field.

she tried to arrange a charity football match between the local kids and a team from the police.

the parish's insurance refused to cover them, and a quote from another insurance firm would've taken all the raised funds.

on the alloted sunday, an 'unofficial' match took place, and managed to raise £300......

Common sense ???

YES, what would you need insurance for anyway? Kids hurt themselves playing football all the time, we have a national health service, this is not the USA where you need your own health insurance to get an ambulance to pick you up and a doctor to look at you.

The insurance would only be there to cover being sued! And even if you had it there would have to be discmaimers, so the insurance would cover you getting sued by someone who had signed a disclaimer saying they wont sue, and that they take responsibility for themselves.
