Hi All

I was thinking of doing a course about BS5837 with the hope it might make more employable in a Arb consultant role has anyone been on one of these courses and have good things to say and whether its worth doing or not?

Thanks

I believe the AA and Lantra run consultancy courses from begining to advanced. There is also a tree hazard evaluation proforma called THREATS which is another course that deems you qualified to rate the hazards of individula trees. Hope this helps Rob

BS5837 has nothing to do with tree hazards. Tree life does a day course, which is an introduction, but there is a lot to BS5837 surveys. If you are going to do the course get the BS and study it and get hold of as many AIA's and AMS's.

Sorry 5837 uses alot of acronyms.

AIA - Arb Implications Assessment. This is what planners generaly want. Records all the trees and provides the data for the TCP -Tree Constraint Plan. Should be done before the designs (nearly never is).

AMS - Arb Method Statement. Shows how the works are going to be completed without damaging the trees, specifies tree protection etc. Contractos on site should follow it (nearly never do).
