Hi there,

New to the scene. The problem i come across most is canker. Does it kill trees?

Can it be controled/eradicated

its a natural phenomina caused by various bacteria and fungi (biotic issue) if you want to control or eradicate it im assuming your a forester, thinking of timber values?

cankers can provide a home for many species, from microbial life to furry mammals.

 

you may not like the sight of canker, but it is part of the diversity of life, some critters may say the same for your bricks and mortar.

 

this cankered ash was home to Noctules, this roost is being used again this year:thumbup1:

 

dont see just the trees, see the forest as an eco system, see its ecology and learn to revel in it all

I find a lot of basal cankering on Malus (apple) and Sorbus (rowan) when urban street tree surveying. While it can look fairly innocuous, it often leads to complete failure of the trunk near ground level.

Do you know which pathogen causes the basal canker in both tree species, a bacteria or a (micro)fungus ?
