How Many Ropes Do You Need In A Tree

Ok brain picking time again, I am going to be taking part in the AUS Utility Skills Comp at the AA Conferance in september.

Now each year this same issue raises its ugly head. When climbing up into the tree you must use two life lines when asscending e.g one of the lines is there as a back up if the other fails.

Now I was still lead to believe :confused1:that you could climb up on your life line e.g one rope using a friction hitch, but once you were in the tree and in a position to carry out your work you must be tied in twice with both anchor points been load bearing.

The rules say to look at the work at hieght regs for guidance but I can not find anything relating to arb, only rope access in general.

I would suggest you look at the AA Guide to Good Climbing Practice as it is an Approved code of practice relating directly to the work at height regs in our industry.

I think you will find that the recommendation is that you use a secondary system, ie your lanyard, when cutting.
