Took a large mature Oak down yesterday, there were small green and small burgundy "apples" on it, I squished em and they had a sweet smell, inside there was a bug, one of the lads said that it's a defence mechanism of the tree for when these bugs attack?? Is this true? What is the real name of them?? Cheers guys!

No mate, they were the size of a pea and like an apple, you could squish em in ya fingers and inside there was a insect.
