Editing software advice

I have just ordered a HD helmet camera, its a contour 1080p and I was wondering what the best software for editing is?, I have movie maker but upon reading up on this it wont let you edit mp4, which is what the camera records in. Do I need a codec or a converter, or am I better getting something like Adobe Premier?.

I use Videopad but windows live is free and you can use it for mp4. Although Adobe Premier is awesome:thumbup1:

In my opinion the best thing to use will be Sony Vegas 9 or 10. Very easy to use software with many different things you can do with the video effects wise and you can also render out videos from out to get the best quality possible.

Sony movie HD studio 10 is good once you get used to the interface. Although i still don't use it much as my cpu processor struggles with it:thumbdown:(trying to convince the wife we need a awesome computer)

Yeh I was wondering if my laptop will be able to run it? I was just looking at videopad it supports the file imputs and is free so I might give that a go, I also found one called AVS video remaker? so I might look at that.
