You would only need to fit a new piston if the original was under compression, the thing was scored or the piston to cylinder wall gap was over spec.

If the original piston is ok then I can see no reason to change it.

my ms460 did have a new piston before it was sent away to be ported, only because my friend put unleaded in it and soon after he did that, it all hit the fan:thumbdown: and he had a bill for £250 or so to get a new barrell and piston and all other bits, but you do not need a new piston and barrel if you want to port a chainsaw:thumbup:
