I was under the impression that the Tree radar is used for locating roots and underground utilitys, whilst the Picus is a tool to determine amounts of decay in trunks and stems etc

I know the tree radar costs around 20k well thats what Vince from Sorbus told me a few years ago.

Thanks for that Lee,

I had a chat with Ian from Sorbus this afternoon (Sorbus have split from Fujikura, think Vince still works for Fujikura).

Treeradar was desigined for scanning trunks and roots, but Ian tells me that compared to the Picus it's not a reliable at detecting decay in trunks. But it is still an excellent tool for scanning roots.

Ian told me that it was designed in America and works alot better on there trees, seems odd to me but I'll take his word for it.
