large unidentified split gill?

Tony,

Perfect :thumbup1:, as you can see, it does not have split gills, but forked or bifurcated lamellae, so it is an Agaricales and if it has pale yellowish brown spores, maybe the genus Crepidotus also must be considered.

I will look out for this fungi in my beloved whippendell woods again and collect a sample, haven't observed it before or since though unfortunately.

 

I will have a look at true split gills later:thumbup1:

Not suprising as it was a first for Britain & only the forth european record at that time.

 

 

can picture you scouring the site from dusk till dawn now :biggrin:

it has been recorded about 16 times since, not as unusual as was once thought, truth be known I want to see pycnoporus cinnabarinus more! but if I prove nodulosus is in the wood its another score for the biodiversity of WW

 

as for dusk till dawn in WW nothing new there, I love my whippendell:love:
