its an old vid but shows the setup. you can replace the handled ascender with your vt/hc combo and just hold onto pulley-its not perfect but works. start by taking small steps and just concentrate on building a rhythm-dont worry about going quick. Try to keep as upright as possible so that your feet push downwards not out behind you, this keeps the rope straight and means it feeds through the ascenders easier. and remember to carry a fig 8 for descent! next time your in aucks we can through it all bro-its hard to do via a keyboard

Hey I HIGHLY recommend getting a unicender. I bought one when they first came out for four hundred bucks (spendy i know but worth it), they have since came down in price to about two fifty but it is the Most versatile device i have yet seen. You can use it in countless combinations. It can be used in SRT as an ascender and descender in one. Personally i don't use it just as an entry method but also as a working method. Also it can be used in double rope technique in place of a friction hitch. The applications for this thing are almost endless. I use it in combination with a CMI foot ascender to ascend, then once i'm in the desired working height take the foot ascender off the rope and start my work.

It's a great device to learn on and to continue using once you get the hang out it. I've had mine for two years and still use it on most jobs. Here's a video, it's not good quality but you get the gist of it.. Let me know what you think. I hope this helps!!

If you got one hand ascender it would open up a lot of different set ups. But as Drew said, test it out with a HC or something with a footloop to see if you like the setup..

With a croll and a pantin you could set up a 'rope rocket' mentioned in this document from VTIO. Ive done it with HC (with a webbing sling made into a chest harness and clipped in the middle hole), croll with a short footloop as a knee ascender, bungeed through the bottom HC crab back down to the pantin on the other foot.

It is nice if you cinch a TIP, cos you can SRT up, lanyard in and switch over to your normal climbing system with your HC already on the rope.

I have to agree, I love mine, it saves sooo much energy!

Thanks but there pretty pricey here and dont really get enough bigger trees to warrant getting one.

Don,t just use it on big trees use it on everything!

Ben, have you spoken to Paul, he is doing an SRT day for beginners. You could have a play with the Unicender and some other rigs.:001_smile:
