  1. You are so right. I really don't understand why it isn't more popular. I've been using mine for a while now and i wouldn't dream of switching set-ups. I don't see the sense either of switching to ddrt once your up either (and you dont have to switch gear with it really because it totally replaces a friction hitch on ddrt. It simplifies that set-up too!). The unicender is perfectly safe as a working set-up. There's not really any way that it could get snagged and make you descend on accident because you have to squeeze the top AND the bottom at the same time. I modified mine to have handles too. I placed an eight inch piece of PVC strapped horizontally on the top. It works really well and makes long really long ascents a dream!! And for a pretty reasonable price of 280$ american. I know i sound like a salesman or something but i'm just trying get people to see how awesome this device is.
  2. Hey I HIGHLY recommend getting a unicender. I bought one when they first came out for four hundred bucks (spendy i know but worth it), they have since came down in price to about two fifty but it is the Most versatile device i have yet seen. You can use it in countless combinations. It can be used in SRT as an ascender and descender in one. Personally i don't use it just as an entry method but also as a working method. Also it can be used in double rope technique in place of a friction hitch. The applications for this thing are almost endless. I use it in combination with a CMI foot ascender to ascend, then once i'm in the desired working height take the foot ascender off the rope and start my work. It's a great device to learn on and to continue using once you get the hang out it. I've had mine for two years and still use it on most jobs. Here's a video, it's not good quality but you get the gist of it.. Let me know what you think. I hope this helps!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FLiFUlXWNE]YouTube - unicender[/ame]
  3. Hey guys, Just did my first five hour removal of an enormous pine today with my new petzl sequoia. I use a unicender with a cmi foot ascender as my entry method and as a working method and let me tell you wbith this new harness it was a dream. Absolutely zero discomfort and fatigue from my harness. It was so nice to do a job and not be in pain and uncomfortable the entire time i was up. THANK YOU everyone for your input and advice. Everyone is super friendly and helpful on this forum (which is a new experience compared to the other forums i've tried. People can be jerks). Another question; is anyone else on here from the west coast of the united states?
  4. Alright, that's all really good to hear! One of my concerns if the leg clips. They are plastic, as im sure you know tree work can be really hard on gear. Plastic just seems like a bad idea on any tree gear. Dont get me wrong they are really convienient, (no more adjusting daily!) im just worried a sharp impact might break them. What do you think? And also, do you think that the strap inbetween the two bridge rings is strong enough by itself for life support on SRT? I'm sure it is or else they wouldn't produce it. I'm just worried that i might nick it with my chainsaw or my Silky Sugoi.. Should i double it up you think?
  5. Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum but not to tree service and climbing. Anyways, up until now i've been using a buckinham classic master 2 saddle. It is very uncomfortable and does a real pinch job "delicate parts" spending six hours in a tree as some jobs require has been a very painful ordeal, and as you all know tree work is inherently dangerous and being distracted by gear pain is the last thing you need. Hence my decision to buy a new, better, and (hopefully) more comfortable harness. And after many weeks of reading reviews and shopping around i decided on the Petzl sequoia. I do a mixture of SRT, DRT, and spur climbing depending on the job. Could those of you who have experience with this saddle please give me your input on it? I'm wondering about comfort, funtionality, durabilty, and overall quality. Thanks
