When you say butting does that mean its big timber. At £50 a tonne u should be able to get 9" stuff for processsor, stuff over 14 " is more work and should be a tad cheaper. But i could be wrong the firewood market has gone a bit mad. Lets just hope it does not melt down.

Fair enough, ive found it takes a while to dry beech out to a suitable m/c.... but perhaps given that my woodstack is only covered by a tarp, i imagine that could be the reason why!!

I have the same problem.I am sure beech needs splitting or logging to dry out,especially with wood over 8" diameter, but it all takes time and double handling.O.k if you are highly mechanised.
