Gx620 Honda twin on a timberwolf 125 ph

Was running on full revs, not chipping and suddenly made an awful noise in the engine so turned it off. Tried to start it and there is a metallic rattle from under one of valve covers (everything under it looks fine) and it won't run more than a few seconds. Any ideas please, stuck with big pile of sticks in a small garden!

Not under warranty, sounds like it could be coming from within the crank casing, which I'm guessing is worse! Oh well, a trip to someone with mechanical expertise me thinks...

If the vavles look ok turn it over and see if the move up and down if not you busted the cam gear which i think is plastic so many things it could be

 

I just rebuild my gx670 on the stump grinder. The cam gear is indeed in plastic.

Take off the valve covers and check if the valves are moving. If not, take off the cranck cover. If you want to know how it looks like ; here is a very usefull link :

goto "service" - "spare parts" and enter you engine number. Use the parts number to check the price at a Honda dealer. Every part is in stock, next day delivery to the dealer.

 

 

Just make sure the timing mark is set correctly when re-assembling the case cover.

Thanks all, wasn't a quick enough on the job fix, so stacked and habitat piled the brush in a neighbouring woodland (with the owners consent!) And off to be checked/repaired in the morrow. :)

Mechanic says cost of stripping rebuilding etc isn't as viable as a new/recon engine as its fairly knackered anyway. So its fate is sealed :)

Not far off ten I think, its had a very dubious history. Not sure it knew what an oil change was before my mate got it 3 years ago. Hopefully something fresher will mean no cable ties duct tape and bungees!
