This was sent to me via e-mail from Donald Maclean, wasn't sure if any of you were interested

The HSE have asked us to let you know there are still some places available at the Safety Awareness event being held at Thetford on 31st March, 2011.

They still have a number of spaces available for the afternoon session (and a few for the morning session). The event will be based at Santon Downham Centre.

Anyone wishing to attend should contact [email protected] noting which session they would prefer to attend (am/pm).

Details of Training

The training last half a day and there are two sessions per day.

Timings are - am session - 8:30-9:00 am registration - 12:00 finish

pm sessions 12:30 - 1 pm registration - 4pm finish.

The training is based around two scenarios (see below) - mechanical harvesting and use of chainsaws. The thetford event will focus more on on smaller scale machinery in comparison to the Scotland event to reflect the type of forestry work going on there. However, the principles and key issues discuss will relate to all types of forestry work.

The approach is informal and we encourage as much discussion as possible. This means that we can always deal with other issues that come up. The events are targeted at both supervisors and contractors. As I am sure you are aware, this works really well. The training has been very well received in the past and is delivered by FC's training branch so is high quality.

As mentioned above, although we do base the awareness training on two specific scenarios, the key messages we are getting across relate to all operations.

The two scenarios are:

scenario 1: Mechanical Harvesting / Extraction / Site management /Use of Machinery
