I was working on the horse chestnut and found this growing on some of the larger limbs and the bark had died off quite badly. Which made me worry as this is a large tree next to houses. It has had a fairly large limb split off in the past. It would be a shame to take it down. Other limbs have large cracks in the running all the way up them, it just isn't in the best of health. Will try and get some other photos

Isnt it P. cornucopiae (branched oyster) :blushing:

 

If not please educate me as I may have been getting this one wrong. (Still edible tho:biggrin:)

 

I think the gills on cornucopiae sort of criss cross and on the ostreatus the run parrallel

Not sure exactly what you mean :confused1: but the gills are similar on both. The only difference I can see in 'Mushrooms by Roger Phillips' is that cornucopiae tends to be more funnel shaped. Colour runs from grey to brown on ostreatus so that doesnt help.

BTW couldnt find cornucopiae in fungus directory.
