Auricularia mesenterica A.K.A the tripe fungus

whats interesting here is that I. hispidus has caused limb failures here, I went to this tree to shoot it for hispidus, and instead found our little beastie auricularia! which proves its a cambium coloniser as the hispidus would occupy the core of the volumes that the Auricularia is on here. This fungi may well be responsible for a lot of "complications" in various decays.

I didnt relise just how hard it would be to see the subtle fruits in these images withing the web frames, do you see them in all four images?:001_smile:

So, a tree that is new to me, and what makes this interesting is the zone of interaction on exposed roots at the base. This is goo evidence for a parasitic cambium killer, and certain it starts off as a wound parasite, pioneer. the sink under the line of bark colonised shows just how this fungi changes mode to consume heartwood.

 

Such a fascinating fungi for me.
