Fuel & oil consumption.

Its got an 18" bar on it.

 

I am sure I did read some where that the 250 was a little heavy on fuel but cant find it now.

 

The chain that is on it (original Sthil chain) was put on last year part way through doing last years firewood (but not doing all the cutting as we had a processor in). It has done all my felling, snedding & logging up for 12 months. So its done a lot of work & still has enough life left to still be on the saw this time next year as long as I dont hit any thing in a big way.

 

An 18 inch bar is much too much for a 250. I used to run a 15inch bar on my 260 until recently buying a 13. Now the 15 feels stupidly long and underpowered. You would be amazed the difference a short bar makes - I would bet it would make the saw a good deal more economical too.

Blimey, you really dont do much do you lol, i go through at least a chain a week.

 

On a serious note, your running to big a bar on that saw, making it work much harder than it should, losing power before you even start cutting, bit like driving with the handbrake on.

No I dont do loads as its not my main income. However I am very very careful & dont cut on the ground without raising the log & dont cut rotten bases as that really dulls the chain.

 

A chain a week sounds expensive. Not just the chains but in all the files you would need to have sharpened it away.

 

I did wonder if the bar was a bit big for the saw, but as it was sold with this bar & its a standard offering it should be ok with one.
