:thumbdown:The Government plans to sell off the National Forests and in its current poorly drafted form it could have a devastating effect on the local communities and businesses that depend on the National Forests for their livelihoods.

‘I am against the Governments current poorly drafted plan to sell off the National Forests. They have an immense value to the local communities and when managed correctly are excellent sources of green energy, which is available to local communities via a growing number of small, local businesses. It is the duty of the Government to ensure that Big Business does not buy up this national resource which could lead to mismanagement, driving up timber prices and 'locking out' of local businesses that depend upon this local resource for their livelihood and to provide affordable green energy to local people and communities’.

The Government plans to sell off the National Forests resource which could 'Lock out' local businesses that depend upon this local resource for their livelihood and to provide affordable green energy to local people and communities’. [/i]

I hope it does allow small woodland business to purchase the woods who will look after them and at the same time earn an income but there is so much nonsence surrounding this issue. I wrote to the 38 degrees team (who are from friends of the earth) and had no response at all.

There has been posting elsewhere on this if interested.

1. As I understand it the woodlands are only in England and they're being leased with conditions attached, not neccessarily sold.

2. Whoever 'rents' the woodland has to keep current access rights in place.

3. Shock horror! There might be private parties involved who will actually look after and improve the woodland as they're not restricted by Government bureaucracy and funding caps.

4. This is old news now.

Brilliant comment thats more or less what I've been telling everyone who asks me about it.

That 38 degrees website contains no information just bandwagon jumping
