Anyone used 2 way radios for work?

Has anyone? As im thinking of buying a pair (waterproof ones not spalsh proof) and using a cobra mic system for when i need to communicate with the climber on very busy roads, crane jobs, etc.

The cost will be massively cheaper than the bluetooth system which is one main reason im thinking of this.

So has anyone got any recommendations?

we did have them in built in our helmates, to be honest we soon got board of them and they where always breaking and running out of battery ect. We reverted back to hand signals, and i guess when a team works together all day every day you soon develope a way of comunication, and a seamless way of working together. IMO waste of cash

I don't mean the ones that fit into the ear muff or everyday use just when its required like working with a crane driver. 99% of the time normal day to day shouting will do but recently its been hard to shout and hear due to traffic and obstructions in the area. Just a seperate system that you can put on when needed and back in the office when not. :001_smile:

We use Icom in work, great range on them (about 1/2 a mile), and tomorrow I'll get the model number of the ones we have, they're both analogue and digital, so you can use analogue if you have another team working with you with analogue handhelds, or digital when on your own, givbing better clarity.

Think they were about £160, but fully waterproof and approved for use by the US military.

That would be good, thanks for doing that.

We use some motorola T5 walkie talkies when necessary - they're tiny and unobtrusive, and you can clip them onto the chin strap of your helmet so they're out of the way, but easy to reach. Easy to operate with gloves on, and with the volume right up, it's pretty clear to hear with your ear defenders down. Think they're about £40 and I love them as a cheap and cheerful solution.

The downside is when your groundy starts singing a really catchy song, and then it gets stuck in your head. :001_smile:
