If you run a saw completly dry, it will take a few pulls to pull the fuel through the lines into the carb. I dont think there is anything wrong with your saw...

You can hear when your saw is running out of fuel, i tend to switch it off then rather than let it run completly dry. Then once filled up with fuel you tend not to get the problem of it cutting out on you so often.

Does it have a manual fuel purger (rubber nipple normally next to the choke lever)? If so purge it enough times for fuel to fill the nipple and a few more times to put fuel in the carb. If not flick it to closed choke and pull a few times on the cord to get fuel back into the carb.
