Got these 2 Beech to takedown shortly. Wanted a positive ID on the fungus and any advice on the detremental effect on the structural integrity (if any). Obvious signs of previous fire damage, but whats the fungus and what is it doing to the wood. The part of the timber that looks soft and spongey is actually rock hard like coral.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for picture quality. (Iphone on a bright morning.)

I would offer up Flamulina.

that is ofcourse, if you'd actualy managed to take any decent shots that is.

:001_tongue:

& you with a new hardware at your disposal n'all. :001_rolleyes:

Oh the Hama will be dissapointed :sneaky2:

.

That hasnt helped, but thanks anyway.

I'll rephrase the question. Dont care about the name apart from for my own educational purposes. More asking about possible defects to structural integrity of timber.

Cheers my dears.:thumbup1:

How would my untrained eye distinguish that from Armillaria in that piccy :blushing:? It's getting bad when even the "common" ones are misidentified...

Without getting a good look at stem, gills etc, then I would be cautious in my Id.

But unlikely to get Armilaria at this time of year, as opposed to Flam, which is in abundance currently.
