I recently changed the metal gear housing on two a few weeks ago as the hooks had snapped off. In doing so I discovered the oil pump is a bugger to remove/ replace! The only way to do it without splitting open the gear housing is to access it through a hole in the bottom, covered with a piece of black plastic, it has a screw thread with which to insert a screw to pull it out with. Very tight! The oil channel then runs to the chain from there, you could try blowing the channel back through perhaps. Make sure to replace it in the same orientation as it came out.

Or if it is a newer model the breather valve coming through from where the bar is mounted may be blocked, causing a vacuum, they only cost a few quid to replace. Hope this makes sense and helps :)

With lots of firm but carefull pulling did the trick for me! There may be an easier way that I don't know of/couldn't figure out. I held the unit in a vice and tried various pliers mole grips etc to grab the bolt and wiggle jiggle and pull till it came. As I said, I was replacing the metal casing and had to completely strip it down on two pole saws. The first one I didn't know about the screw thread until I'd tried tapping it out from within the gear housing, given up, and hacksawed it out to put in the new one. Wasn't until I cleaned it up I noticed the thread! It is incredibly tight, but possible, good luck!
