which make of tree winch

want a new tree winch ,Tirfor appear to be the Rolls Royce , but other "similar" devices are available at lower prices , are they cheap imitations or globally competetive ? Whats your experiences good/bad , know of any good deals ?

tirfor have the quality, the Jet winches are decent enough tho. try landmark.

Try to find a second hand Tirfor, I got one for 100 euro about 10 years ago.

Only bought the cable new.

Tirfor - can't be beaten for quality, reliability, and longevity. Cheaper "griphoist" types don't seem to measure up (although those marketed under the "Yale" brand might be OK - Yale have made the best "Pullifts" for years and I doubt they would put their name to rubbish). There are many fairly good cheap ones around but they will not last, and cheap tools tend to be more expensive in the long run.

 

Trewhella also can't be beaten for what they are, but they are very different to the griphoist type and are suited to rather different work. They also tend to be very hard to find secondhand and either very expensive or very old or both.

Of course.....it is in the Netherlands, I drove over there on a rainy morning, well worth the trip.

They always have a few in stock at low prices, but without cable.
