What root system were they on?

It was in the lawn in my garden and more than likely on the root system of Pinus.

 

The estate that I live on was untill about 26 years ago pine forest. I back on to a small strip of land which hasgrowing prodominatly mature Pinus sylvestris and some Betula pendula.

Do you know if the estate was newish forestry plantation or an old Pine stand ?
