Red diesel is O.K for forestry.

 

You can tax tractors online - you have to say that it does have a MOT certificate even though it is exempt.

 

Does the tractor have a current tax disc ? It may not be straight forward if the tax has expired and the tractor has not been registered SORN.

depending on how much you are using it on the roads, you might want to run it on white diesel. There has been a number of people who have lost there tractors around here as they running them on red. Some were not farmers and therefore not entitled to use red. Also a number of farmers have been fined as they were using the tractor too far from the farm, therefore not entitled to use red.

if your not using it for forestry or agriculture then surely it should be re-classed and have an MOT, tacho and operators licence? from what i've been told tree work at domestic residence is not classed as forestry?

I have a 6.5 ton mobile crane which has the same problem - it is MOT exempt but you have to say that you have an MOT to tax it online (even though there is a dire warning that giving a false declaration will result in eternal damnation).

 

The online system still works OK. If you tax a vehicle which really does have an MOT, the electronic MOT database is checked, so it must realise that you don't need one because clearly it doesn't do this check for an MOT-exempt vehicle.

 

After several years of doing this no-one has come to take me away yet, so I assume that it is OK to do.
