I've got an ambundance of large diameter tires up in Cumbria if anybody wants any.

And if axe is getting stuck try keeping it blunt as a bollock.Also speed and weight of axe are a commonly overlooked issue.the hand sliding to the shaft needs to be fast.And if your back starts hurting then do more abdominal exerciss as your core is too weak

Tyres are definitely the way to go if splitting manually. I stuff more wood in the tyre though, as much as I can fit. It helps keeps the wood upright.

I don't like the look of that axe, (haven't used one though) I don't like how the head keeps twisting & rotating on a hit. Can't be good for the wrists?

 

 

 

The instructions tell you that the device is unique in that you loosen grip slightly on impact to allow the handle to rotate in your hands.

 

It looks a clever idea but I can't help thinking that if some of the force applied is rotational you lose downward force. Not good with tough wood but maybe the extra separation of the halves of wood compensates.
