5-10% reduction each year over 4 years,

 

Monitor the tree 6 monthly.

 

Inspect the state of bracing, around stem as tree as already failed on opposite stem around brace.

 

Habitat assessment of the tree, flaking bark and cavs are visable - high potential.

I would leave thedead stem as a monument to the trees past.....

We could hang her in a gibbet from the dead stem as a warning to all tree owners to not let their specimen trees get in such a state...

 

Or cremate her and terravent her ashes into the root zone...

Apart from that, for safety's sake, 50% reduction of upper crown to reduce loading on weakened trunk.

A 50 % reduction in one hit or staged Ed, Imo a 50% reduction in 1 hit would kill it off, might as well just fell it

I was trying to avoid the easy "eco" option (sorry guys ) in favour of a individual spec to drag out the last miserable days of the tree a bit longer

Ive carried out an 80% (in one go) reduction on exactly the same species in worse condition. It survived quite happily. I have pics on the office PC of it 4 years after, it formed a new crown nicely.
