Dutch Elms Disease?

Hi all,

Did a crown reduction on a healthy, mature English Elm the other day. Did the reduction as it is very close to the house and the customer is worried about falling branches etc. There was no external signs of any disease but when looking at some of the sections cut off I saw dark staining in many areas inside. Does the tree have DED or is this a usual colouring? I think the tree has lasted this long as it is right next to the sea or the fact it doesn't have any other elms around it as I could see.

Cheers
