I think one of the best all round ropes for durability and ease of use has to be Yale XTC or Samson arbormaster. There are many variations of these in terms of colours etc. but they are all the same.

Other than that there is cheapo stuff like Marlow, and then more specialist stuff like tachyon, blaze and poison Ivy, but these really only come in to there own league when used in large trees, so not much of an improvement if you ony need 37m or so.

Ditto

we sell yale xtc + by the truck load, also sell a lot of new england hi-vee

Thanks for all the info everyone. One consideration I have is that at 7 stone I am light as far as climbers go. Presumably this will make ropes seem less springy to me. Is this a significant factor?

It can be, i get on well with a blakes hitch but know several larger peeps who dont as it wont hol them! that or they are just bein wussies!

Oh yes, I forgot about Hi vee!! Good rope, I've got one thats used for natural lowering, and generally get us out of bovver, its good stuff.

At 7 stone, you won't get much bounce in any rope but thats a good thing. I'm guessing small hands too?? Maybe Blaze (or any 11mm) would be perfect for you.

The only thing most (some) bloked have with yale is its too small to grip but you should be fine, and its so light and compact, no point dragging a 12-13mm rope round a tree if you don't have to.
