Vented bag covers

Hi all does anyone know of a supplier of vented bag covers, im thinking these will give me more flexibility than tarpaulin

I spoke to a friend about having something manufactured to sell but quickly realised if successful the bag manufacturers would just make them with covers.... as they should. I find the cheapest option is to buy a roll of black polythene ground sheeting used by builders ( think its called DPD ) and cut it into squares and stick a tyre on the top.

It probably depends how many bags you want to cover and whether you are asking for storage or for transportation purposes but a folded builders bulk bag will pretty much cover the top of a 1m3 vented bag. I always strap one of the unused unopened builders bags to the top of my m3 bags when I'm transporting them to a customer to stop the logs bouncing out and it works well.

I did want the covers for when storing the vented bags, but looks like they dont do them

I've now decided that maybe the best way is just cover them with tarpaulin but i do find that the bags on the outside some of the logs will still get a bit wet.

Tarpaulins can be a real pain in the neck Sam.... because of the size they are very prone to being caught by the wind and ripped off .... been there got the t shirt.

I bought a job lot of old corrugated roofing sheets. these sit on top of the filled bags and do a good job. I do weight them down with rocks and bricks.

 

Tarps can leave the wood a bit sweaty but the roofing tin acts like an oven in warm weather:thumbup:

 

also with these sheets you can create an overhang to keep rain off the sides although it dries quickly anyway.

Although the jury still seems to be out on whether or not it is necessary to cover vented bags for seasoning. Many experienced log producers on here say that it is not essential and do not cover their bags ?????

But like this morning its wet so as my bags are not covered the logs are wet and ive got deliveries today which does not look good to the customer

Sorry Sam I was just thinking about the seasoning aspect, I fully agree that they need to be dry for delivery.
