Any ideas what this fungi is?

A good way to check if the fungus is Ganoderma resinaceum is to see how resenus the top of it is. If it cracks easy then it is a likely sign of resinaceum. However from the limited pics its hard to give a certain ID.

 

Like the white fluffy fungus.Just goes to show, keep an eye out for new findings.:thumbup1:

i found this fungi at the base of a 20 meters high dead Beech,

very close to it there is another beech, same hight and no signs of any die back??

Can't work it out what it is..

any ideas??

After doing some research at work on that little fluffy topped fungi. I found out the name of it Postia ptychogaster. It grows on the deadwood of any tree. Any wont cause the tree any harm as it only eats the deadwood. Should we put this in the fungi directory?

 

I was unaware of this form of postia, very intersting, shall be keen to see that one in the flesh:001_cool:

 

and yes i reckon its a valid entry to keep our mr Humphries occupied!:laugh1:

 

I must now go see if hes ponced my hericium yet! he better have, cos its a good one!:lol:

We must not forget that ganoderma pfiefferi also has a resinous coating, and both I believe melt on a flame and re set on cooling so dont think you have it all sorted out yet:001_tt2:
