Hi folks I was thinking of buying a chain grinder.. Does anyone use one? I don't know any one who has one every one that work with us just uses good old had files.. Am I just being a lazy sod.? I am holding back because I know it wastes a lot of chain..

I brought a cheep 1 of eBay. It only cost £35 and only use if the chains are well batterd as there a lot sharper if u do it by hand. But it only takes 5 mins to sharped a 25" chain which has totally lost it's edge. But I wouldn't use it if it was just dull due to amount cutter that is growing off.

I've used several, and they are not without their pitfalls. They don't really save that much time, as if you're just tickling a chain it's quicker to hand sharpen and if you're doing a rocked out chain you might have to do two passes to avoid overheating the teeth. Far less effort though!

Well set there shouldn't be appreciably more wastage of chain and it's good for returning to 'base setting' if a chain's a bit wonky.

You get what you pay for grinder wise and YMMV with operator.

That's not very conclusive but hope it helps.

thanks for everyone for your advice.. I think the one on machine mart looks good.. Many thanks, great advice though like you guys have said wont save much if your just giving the chain a quick sharen,,Cheers Seth
