How do I remove my chainsaw drive sprocket?

I've wrapped the area with tape as a temp measure but until I can afford a petrol one, this will have to last a bit longer! I was hoping to also clean the inside of the saw as it makes a bit of a grinding noise when the brake kicks in. I know it's only a cheapo electric but is ideal for occasional use.

So its not cut right through then?

Should be ok as it is for now. I wouldn't take it apart if I was you.

Even cheap petrol ones are not designed to be taken apart. Only the proffessional range saws are made specifically so that they come apart and can have any part replaced with relative ease.

Just for own garden use. Don't need some heavy expensive saw at the moment. The circlip doesn't have holes at its ends.

Some petrol saws have a similar circlip, and it come off if you hold a screw drive against both tips and tap with a small hammer.

But my other advice still holds.

Maybe it's best if I follow your advice guys and leave it as it is. Insulated the wire and put it back together. I have a habit of breaking things. Its been cutting out this morning and the cable now needs be be on a certain angle where it enters the saw to run. Must be a loose connection. I'm sick of it anyway.

Maybe about time I got a good petrol one. Any recommendations? Can't afford a new one and it doesn't have to be top spec. Will only be for occasional personal use.

I've just bought a stihl chain with 57 drive links. Will the chain fit any 16 inch bar?

Many thanks.
