Drier wood will be harder to be honest but if you bansaw it say 5mm thick then soak it overnight that might work then peel it down thinner, plus i find it doesn't curl when wet.

Now there's an idea, good thinking, I'll give that a go tomorrow when I get home. It's mainly exotic woods from a turning shop, Zebra wood, Snake skin, Ebony of different kinds, olive wood, purple heart, loads of others I can't remember the names of.

I don't have a lathe, and I also need the grain to run the lenth of the wood so it keeps its strenth.

I used to work many many years ago for a tropical hardwood importer as a sawyer, I saw veneer made with a big table planer, the timber was walnut [yes I know not tropical], it comes out a bit of a mess, and has to be put together, the grain has to be closed up.....
