Tree Planting

I came across this whilst out walking in a local park with my two dogs.

Is this really the spec that councils require, and parks officers accept......and we pay for.

My two 'fully grown' border collies are to give you an idea of the depth of woodchip.

Email those photos to the chap in charge. Maybe even chuck in a link to this thread with us slating the shoddy spec/results.

Andy Summerly tells a good story about the operatives from some landscape firm using a billhook to remove the roots before they spiked the rest of the tree into the ground... Their excuse??? The spec didn't say plant with the roots attached....

The way my local council tenders work you can expect shoddy jobs. Many a job I've put a price in and not got, later I've passed and been shocked at how pap the work was. It really irratates me that we miss out on work as we price to do a proper job and someone else prices lower but only does 1/2 the job.

I mentioned it to the tree officer and she said that street trees just have to be done as cheaply as possible and so the quality isn't an issue.
