Why do you need two spliced eyes on a rope? surely that would make it difficult to get things like cambium savers onto the rope? If you're playing with the concept of climbing on both rope ends I'd suggest experimenting with some knots like the Bowline, Perfection Hitch, or Buntline hitch (with a karabiner) to attatch to the plain end of your rope. :icon14:

The New England splice is no thicker than the rope,if you have two eyes you can alternate the end you use:icon14:

going back to the rope we use at college, i have learned or been taught to climb with both ends of the rope so until i reach a point of getting more confident i would prefere to keep using this before trying new things

why do you need two spliced eyes? surely theyve taught you to tie a selection of attachment knots too?

for me, I would stick with one eye

I've recently put my climbing kit together, and looked at numerous 'packages' but in the end, I tried things out, got advice on different products, sought out bargains, and hand picked the gear at the best price I could. I found a lot of packages were quite a compromise.

If you have the 2 eyes, you're scuppered if the rope 'milks'. A nicely tied bowline or similar is good when advancing your line, as it makes for a nice weighted end to lob over a branch or fork. I've never been a massive fan of eyes. With the New England spliced I've used, you get a stiff section about 50cm from the eye which your friction hitch stalls on. Annoying.

Only problem with throwing it with the knot still attached, is if your unlucky enough, it could get stuck.

And that seriously sucks.
