RFS Cert Arb Online: Achievable???

Hi guys,

I am after some advice. I applied to study at Myerscough last year for the RFS Cert Arb Online course. After a few minor dilemmas at home and a new baby, I couldn't keep up past October and fell well behind.

I applied to defer my exams to next June and had this accepted. However, I have just logged on to my online account and downloaded all the work and am a bit taken aback by the ammount of work to get through.

I am working full time trying to build my business up, and I am a Retained fire fighter. I am doubting whether I can find the time to do all the work required, but I am desperate to learn more and get some recognised theoretical qualification.

Anybody else done this online and got any comments / advice on how to wade rhrough it?

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

I'm sorry I can't offer you any advice on the course...I've just applied to start it in September!

Can you give me some advice please?

Is the course any good?

Was the course material a good standard? Tutors good? etc etc

It sounds like it's quite an intensive course, I hope I'm not too thick to finish it!

Thanks,

Coldrunner

I completed this course last year and managed to pass it too. I worked full time for the duration of the course. I also have 3 kids form the ages of 4 and 15.

Yes it gets a bit much and trying to find time (especially quiet time) to get the work done can be a bit of a mission at times. We were lucky enough to rent a small room out which I went to twice a week to 'study'. This proved invaluable but as the exams drew closer then studying withion the family home became paramount too. For this discipline is essential. We decide that for instance thursday would be a study night. All the family knew this although when its all kicking off with kids its very hard to sit there and ignore it because its my 'study night'.

Read Read read.......just keep on reading. It becomes apparent early on where to focus more time within the modules. As with anything you will retain more info about 1 subject than the other. If a module is boring.....info retention is harder. I decided quite early on that i would concentrate my energy and efforts into 3 modules and neglected the 4th. My reason being that i didnt want to spread myself too thin. If i could pass 3 then i would be vey happy to return the following year and just re-take 1 module. It eased the workload and my focus was now on the 3. With a month to the exams i shifted towards the 4th. I managed a pass in all 4 written modules. :001_smile:

College support i didnt find too helpful to be honest. But they supplied (most) of the material needed and then I found arbtalk which helped me no end. Arbtalk as a resource for this course is exceptional. ASK ASK ASK......dont get lazy and expect everybody on here to do all the work but use the wealth of experience that resides here.

People work/study in different ways. Work out a system for yourself and everything will be fine. Dont stress and fret.....if you pass you pass. If you dont then that isnt a reflection on your intelligence. Self study whilst trying to run a life/employment is time consuming and draining. Theres always the next year to pass a couple of modules if needed.

Good luck

Thanks for your advice Sean.

Coldrunner, as far as the course goes I got so little done last year that I can't really comment on the quality! The tutors were friendly and always responded quickly by email though.

We should keep in touch once we get going and see what happens!!
