how much damage did you polish out the pot mate? very light scratching or medium/deep scoring.

Once I cleaned the pot with oven cleaner the damage didn't look as bad but it did have some medium scoring, it polished out real well with some fine wet and dry and some light oil.

Does the old exhaust have to be welded up for performance? I've seen on some if the yank sites that they just add another port or get an exhaust from a magnum and leave the old port open, I think.

I did a bit of tinkering on the old 46 and 66 a while ago, hardly anything drastic since they didn't sound much louder, will have another go me thinks.

No you don't have to weld the old outlet shut but I didn't want such a massive outlet on my exhaust, Al Smith told me that the outlet should be around 80% of the exhaust port on the saw. Just remember, faster gasses require a richer mix of the carb.

i did a mod like that to an 039, it used to struggle on its 16" bar, opened up the exhaust and did it well, it now screams on an 18" bar and you would think theres a scally on a motorbike going round near you!
