One for you boffs out there, as you would need a bottle jack to be Loler tested to assist the felling of a tree, what about wedges, they do lift weight and could possibly fail with serious consequences.

So should they be tested?

If not why not?

Do they lift? Or do they wedge?

What about a felling bar?

Does my grandmas stanner stair lift have to get LOLER'd?

That doesn't answer the original question though does it? I'd guess it would be something to do with the fact that they are an aid and that the exact forces couldn't be calculated or similar???

The woman at the clinic told me I haven't got it either:001_tt2:

I agree they are a tool, and wouldn't need to be lolered, I just wonder where the definition comes into play. It's an interesting question:thumbup:

Bottle jack is easy

Not fit for purpose buy the proper tool

car jacks are not designed for jacking trees over

and you would put wedges in in case it failed unless you was a donkey and the wedge is not holding or lifting

Therefore if the jack failed the wedge would be holding the weight of the tree.:confused1:

BUT, if in a typical situation when using wedges (fit for purpose) a wedge failed due to a defect/damage, what then?

Surely Loler checks of this crutial piece of kit should apply?
