This ones even beter than the lame post above......

 

Came across this whilst at the Forest Research Station at Alice Holt yesterday,

what greets you as you come up to the Lodge is this once fine old Oak.

 

The replacement next to it is it's own progeny :thumbup1:

 

Great to see this level of management, Tree & Property heritage should always have a place together.

 

Was having a butchers in the Library and came across this old photo showing the old Oak still alive. Not sure when that was taken.

Looks like the original tree might have suffered some root damage from the drive - possibly explaining it's sorry state in the old aerial picture. The other trees in the foreground look healthy enough - did you notice if they're still there?

 

 

 

They are still there Giles, and looking healthy & vital.

 

here's a shot (although poor quality) from i reckon about the Sixties that shows a fairly decent canopy on the lost Oak.

& the afore mentioned trees by the car park.
