Swanwick NR a place where I work at weekends and volunteer my services for free. Beautiful woodlands. In 2010 on 27 Feb I witnessed a Roe give birth at the side of the lake. I checked on her baby everyday and she did not mind me being so close. They usually give birth to twins but she either had a still-born or did not have a 2nd as I could not find it. The young have no smell and therefore mum will leave her for upto 48hrs a time while she feeds only returning to feed her off-spring. The youngster is then left to fend for itself later that year when she again comes in to season. Cool eh! :thumbup1:

Apologies for the picture quality but I'll get there in the end :001_rolleyes:

Kingley Vale - Site is managed by deer and rabbits. Chalk downland and an orchid heaven. Take a picnic, a spare pair of lungs (steep in places) choose a fine day and you can see from Chichester to Portsmouth from the ancient monument on the top of the hill. Awesome!

Was up at Capel Manor today with the apprentice for his 38 & 39.

Took a wee walk into an adjacent wood that I should have long been into by now, especially as I've been going to capel as a student since 1985 :blushing:

Only had an hour, but a fine piece of woodland & worthy of a stroll if you're ever in the area.

Down for a bimble with the boys around the Great wood at Nawthaw this morning.

Emphasis was more on spending time with the lads rather than hunting down the fung, but there were a few bits n pieces that literally jumped out at me :001_rolleyes:.

these the best.......

Fomes fomentarius here on Birch - relatively rare combo down here in the south

& Enteridium lycoperdon
