Yeah, I get that.

Think that's what makes the discovery of that erinaceus my best by a country mile, especially being on Oak & being a first for Middlesex in a relatively Urban area, (although within a sssi)

& the randomness of coming across it, just like when you unearthed that mega stash of dryads on the way to kent.

That was a mind bender for sure..

Yes your right, that dryadeus find was "on another plain":thumbup1:

theres been so many of these "specials" this year its just impossible to compare them, each one, each find and the experience is different and unique.

This shall be my living soon

My specialist niche, veteran trees and thier associated fungal communities, decay characteristics and methods of retention and conservation.

With particular atention to the ecology of old growth oak/beech woodlands:thumbup1:

was out with the tribe for a pre pub-lunch ramble, down in a local woods this morning.

This little wood is litteraly a mile down the road, but I'd never cottoned on to it before :blushing:

turned out to be a fine little gem; Oak & Beech standards, Hornbeam hedge coppice, some coniferous & a splattering of Wild service.

But what made the brief encounter memorable, was coming across 'Jack'

Never met him before, but now feel i know his whole life & family.

This guy was 86 and had lived around there all his born days.

Proceeded to tell us his life story & how this was his little oasis, walked down there almost every day with a whole long line of dogs long past & first with his kids & then the grandkids.

said he was going to have his ashes scattered in there on the roots of his favourite Beech.

He was walking round with a pair of old felcos, keeping the rhody back off the paths.

Although it is LA managed.....................this really was 'Jacks Wood' :001_smile:
